Is all the nuclear waste that is being buried and almost impossible to retrieve just the waste from recycling or is it the raw unprocessed spent fuel?
Just found out that recycling of spent fuel is possible so burying stuff that can still be used seems pretty stupid

What's your source for that? From what I know nuclear waste is just stored in a cave underground. I know that in France it is considered a strategic reserve, and there are plans to develop reactors that would run only on nuclear waste ( currently it has to be mixed with fresh uranium ).

Those don't actually exist. There are only plans and few partially built ones. You still need to bury the spent fuel eventually even if you do recycle it and you will need to bury much more other things than just the spent fuel like the reactor which gets heavily irradiated, majority of the material by mass is in fact not the fuel.

Reprocessing isn’t great for the environment. The chemicals used can quite nasty and no one has any idea what to do about 85-Kr. Seriously, we dump curies of 85-Kr into the atmosphere. I still agree that it should be done, but it’s not a perfect solution.

While there have always been loud retards on both sides (teach the controversy / nuclear bad) I honestly believe Dems have had consistently more research driven policy in the ~20 years I have been following policy.

There's been a marked change in the GOP platform since they've moved towards the evangelical vote in the late 90's/early 2000's. If nuclear came out today w/o previous history, Democrats would embrace it and Republicans would shun it as being needlessly dangerous and killing everyone in a 60 mile radius.
