Surely they get defensive and offended but are they in denial and are they wrong? When politicians talk of unsustainability and environment, isn't this just a code word for higher taxes and depopulation. It damn sure looks like they are actually talking about the latter.

Those are at least all things that the science community has gotten over and embraced as acceptable areas of research in modern times. You can publish and compare papers that deal with manmade climate change or things that contradict the bible, even if some people get offended or angry over it. Trying to publish something about genetic racial differences is a different story.
