its not even about the mutations - thats just quicker/more frequent evolution. the mental repercussions of doing it or having it be done to you are huge - the mice or rats can even be seen as "not sentient", so imagine it was done to someone who was

what if the cancer is in your brain? Why allow the cancer to get to stage 4 in the first place? It's pretty fucked up that your insurance wouldn't cover continuous monitoring to detect cancer before it gets to stage 4.

It may not be soon, but gene printing will be a reality one day. I'm sure some would deny being put into a body after death, and in any case, the brain would have to either be kept alive somehow, or brought back to life. Unless consciousness is persistent, ie. able to appear anywhere regardless of whether it's biological or not (being uploaded for real, not just being cloned). It's far more likely that consciousness is a deep-rooted natural construct that can't be replicated, but mind cloning is hardly science fiction. It's gonna happen. People will be against it, people will be for it, but regardless, it will happen.
