You legally require a degree for many jobs, doctor, lawyer, engineer, etc.
And for somethings having a degree is the only way you could even study your science, like with biology and chemistry, a lot of equipment is very expensive and hard to get—not to mention it's straight up illegal to posses some materials needed for science without proper permissions.
A business degree isn't even necessary to run a business or to get a corporate job. Nepotism works better in those cases.
