what is the purpose of analyzing systems in the complex S domain? Yeah there's the fact it converts calculus operations to algebraic manipulations but that feels secondary to what I'm trying to get at

Converting the system to the S domain eliminates time as a variable which to my midwit brain seems counterintuitive and unproductive, since we're trying to see how a system responds over time to a given input. But, in eliminating time, we gain access to how the system responds with changes in frequency or exponential magnitude. But, for things that don't oscillate or for things where it doesn't really make sense to ask about their frequency or exponential response, what utility is there in converting the system to the complex S domain?

Though I know this is never done, surely we could just find the ratio of the input to the output in the time domain in order to

Obviously since this isn't done, there must be a specific advantage other than ease of symbolic manipulation (since we're doing that shit with CAS/CAD anyway in the real world) when observing the system without the influence of time.

Is it because the complex output is a kind of state space so we can see all responses at once?
