I always thought it was kinda wild how starving kids in Africa might be incredibly appreciative of any meal they can get, but I was upset they forgot I said no mustard because I don't like mustard. evolution. being content or experiencing pleasure are meant as rewards for suffering through some ordeal with an end goal perceived as beneficial in some way. this whole neural circuit exists ultimately as a survival mechanism. organisms that would just feel pleasure for simply existing won't survive very long. you need to do things to ensure your survival. so selection favored suffering as a means of motivation to survive. only when the reward is reached can you feel content and if the reward is great enough you feel pleasure. failing to do so can at best result in a weak state of malaise that some mislabel as content when it's just coping with the situation but still feeling shitty about it. and feelings from failure last much longer than the feeling from the reward which is very short lived.

i have bpd and recently one of my cats was in a hit and run and i couldnt look at the pics to help identity but either way i took it worse than normal people and still think about revenge or recipricating the anguish he caused to me AND the cat which apperantly isnt normal to think like that the person that did it lives near by too i just need to narrow down the 50 or so houses in this area one by one but idk y im taking it this bad prob bc of bpd but its all feelings i know its irrational
