However, I think generally, it evolved to make women more selective about their partners.
Since it hurts to have that hymen hit, women won't just allow anyone to mate with them unless it is someone they truly trust.
This also explains whorish behavior of women who lost their hymen at 12-14. They probably would have been more selective if their hymen regenerated after every sexual intercourse.
