so we need stuff to interact. and by stuff i mean particles that things are made of and other particles that provide forces between the things.
now, of all forces between things, gravity is by far the weakest force. therefore it matters the least for things that go on at short distances. but it is still there, and because it is so weak, it “settled in” to a steady state long before the other forces sorted themselves out
therefore, weak forces settle down earliest and thus form a background on which the stronger forces dance a more rapid dance. the force of gravity gets its distinguished stature solely by virtue of its extreme weakness, which enables it to be treated as the “background “ for all the other phenomena of nature.
tl;dr gravity exists because there has always got to be a weakest force and once a weakest force exists then it becomes the “background” for everything else
