You can introduce an "infinity" point, but you wanna make sure 1/0 is independent of the direction you approach 0 so the infinity point will be double sided, so this isn't compatible with the order on R. You can see this explicitly by the fact that this one point compactification of R is topologically just a circle lol. However, on this circle, 1/0 is indeed infinity.
