He was really a hackjob and I'm not saying that just to jab, but it is true. There are entire chains of literature going back and forth about what Marx really meant by this or that. You can never truly define what Marxism is because that's how they want it. If you could define it you could construct an argument against it. But you can't argue against something that slips through you hand at every attempt to grasp.
There is a fuckton of context that you need to appreciate this, but Marxism is quite literally a subversion of Hegel's work.

This was a fucking problem because Hegel was an Aryan Germanic race realist. Hegel created a systematic ideology to justify racism. In fact you could go as far to say that Hegel's system forces you to conclude that anit-racism is immoral. This was a problem for some people as you can imagine.
Marxism exists to muddy the waters and prevent people from truly understanding Hegel. Funnily enough, it is applying the concept of dialetics to itself. Hegel revealed how to do meme magic, so whats the next thing that happens? People use meme magic to subvert Hegel. kind of ironic
This might sound tinfoil to some of you but it is what it is. I'm not saying Kabbalistic meme magic is real, but I'm saying Hegel independently derived it and that freaked out the people who believed in it already based on an ancient lineage.
