So we have 1000 people with the vaccine, 1000 people without it.
100 people without the vaccine get the virus.
10 people with the vaccine get the virus.
100 - 10 = 90
Okay, the virus is 90% effective.
Wut? Like how the fuck does that work?
So to answer your question OP. I think the numbers were nonsense to begin with.

Going by official data from Israel, UK, Qatar and the study linked in OP, J&J is clearly the worst, followed by Pfizer, then AZ, then Moderna which drops off the least. It's interesting because J&J and AZ are both adenovirus based, yet AZ beats Pfizer.
