I can't be the only one around here that thinks formal education is garbage, or am I?
Why am I forced to sit through 90min of a monologue from which I won't learn anything, sometimes 4 times per day?
In my country the professors don't even work examples, it's just theorem after theorem thrown at you.
The only way to understand these (according to my experience) is to work with concrete examples, to derive the proofs yourselves, obviously I can't do that in a lecture where I can't go at my own pace and of course to work problems yourself, in which already solved problems can come in very hand the procedural knowledge from.
Most learning is you sitting down with a piece of paper, so why focus on non-interactive instruction like that?
Just give me a textbook in the 20th edition and that is it, no need to throw a half-assed lecture at me.
