But more seriously, I think any of our near-ancestors with the capacity to travel on sea would have inevitably been steamrolled by early man when we came around, as we do. We made it all the way to Easter Island, after all. Hell, for all we know, the native Australians wiped out some more distant ancestor when they first arrived.
