My professor is like pic related. He's like the king of research at this campus. Thousands of people respect him.
I'm doing my thesis partially under his tutelage.
How do I use him the right way? I feel like I'm pissing away my potential here.

He probably knows the literature well and has a list of interesting papers for any concept you throw at him.
Since he knows the landscape he can point you to the fruitful places to dig.

All sciences have what I like to call CURRENT pinnacle "blessings" and pinnacle "weapons".
Once you have achieved the hydrogen bomb, you've reached peak physics weapons, once you have achieved AGI understanding you've reached peak physics blessings.

Once you've achieved chlorine triflouride, you've reached the pinnacle of chemical weapons, once you've understood organic chemistry, you've reached pinnacle chemical blessings.

Once you've hit prion hybrid bioweapons, you've hit pinnacle biolological weapons, once you've understood biological life extension, you've gotten the pinnacle biological blessing.

Sure they can change over time, but these markers are pretty big indicators that you've gotten higher understanding, then couple that with the four fundamental forces of physic and you can basically package them all together neatly, at which point you really are grasping at the coat tail of mathematics and experimental quantum physics.
