By "high power" they mean high optical intensity (e.g. a laser beam). The crystals themselves are just a medium for optical energy conversion, they don't require additional energy sources to function. Nonlinear optics is notoriously finicky and you'll only get a process to work if you have the exact temperature, wavelength, phase matching angle, etc.
If you actually want to mess around with this stuff I would strongly recommend working through an entire textbook on the subject first because optics aren't cheap and if you don't know what you're doing you're just burning money.
