my guess is either something so unlike life of earth we would have trouble identifying it as alive, at least initally, or something strikingly similar to life on earth. depends on whether life can only form on earth-like planets or if it's not that simple.

If we ever find extraterrestrial life it is very likely they won't have DNA. They will have whatever developed in there corner of the universe to propagate life. I think this is extremely interesting but no Scifi ever address is this. Is it really not that interesting?
