If you study 1 hr per day 5 days per week 6 months.
If you study enthusiastically you could do it in less. If you read like an hour or two before bed in addition to studying and doing problems you could probably do it in 1-3 months.
Children do it in 9 but they don't pay attention in class usually.

if you're solid in pre-algebra you could pace yourself and learn it in a few months. the nice thing about math is it's super structured and the teaching hasn't changed since like 1950s. math especially you could download a textbook and watch free lectures online on each topic, find free notes online and find free quizes and tests. usually the type of person who's able to self teach themselves at this level is already a bit further in school but if your study habbits are good and you really commit to an hour a day or so then math especially is very self-teachable.

You can do arithmetic on an equation so long as you apply the same operations to each side.
Eliminate numbers from one side of an equation with a variable using various arithmetic operations to ascertain the value of the variable.
