What is the evolutionary advantage of fainting?

Have you ever fainted before?

I randomly fainted and it felt like a machine shutting down or maybe even dying.

What causes random vasovagal syncope?

I've fainted plenty of times, usually from heat. The purpose is to get your head on the ground so blood can go in.

Happened to me. Only time ever in my life. I stood up, took a few steps, and then remember trying to reach my hand out as the floor came up and met the side of my face. Came to almost immediately but it freaked me out. I assume it had something to do with the nicotine and lack of oxygen..

I have. Was getting an IV inserted into the back of my hand, but the nurse didn't actually lock the tube end. Blood started pouring out literally like a tap. Vision shrank and I slumped over for a few seconds. I'm not squeamish so I dunno if it was the sight of blood, or the change in blood pressure.

Makes sense to me.

I fainted for "no reason". Maybe extreme pain. ER doctor said maybe I passed a gallstone so I'm gonna go get checked out for that. They don't check for such things in the ER.

I can see how it is useful evolutionarily. Probably pretty safe ancestrally but not a good fit for fake modern society. I'm still freaked out about driving.
