How well understood are the interior fluid dynamics of a planet like Jupiter?

There is supposedly an ocean of metallic hydrogen beneath tens of thousands of km of clouds, but this has never been observed. Would such an ocean have "waves", or resemble anything like oceans as we understand them on Earth?
