Is misogyny still prevalent in university setting STEM Classes?

>in my 4th year of a math degree and im the only girl in class of 16 people. Got placed in groups to do biweekly projects for the semester and my groupmates barely talk to me. They wouldnt take my advice on fixing a part I thought was wrong and we lost points for it and they didnt give me any big responsibilities for the past two projects now. Cant tell if because im a girl or just a coincidence. You would think more intelligent guys would be past this.

Not really at my school. Most of my classes have a good number of females in them but one of them has only one, and everyone listens to what she says respectfully.
Might be more prevalent at whatever school you're going to, or they're nervous. Probably either or, some hate you and some are uncomfortable talking to you. And some probably just don't care but they go with the majority's decisions anyway.

You're probably not being assertive enough. I see it in both boys and girls in my class. And it's always coupled with an annoying "I told you so!" after the fact which is never going to win you any points because you should've fought for it if you were confident enough (and if you weren't confident you deserve the docked marks). Part of the degree is learning teamwork so that you can potentially function in a research group one day. That means you have to learn how to assert yourself politely without antagonising other members while also handling conflict. With math autists this is extra hard to do.

Btw your groups members are almost certainly annoyed that aren't participating in the discussions enough or volunteering to do parts of assignment. They are probably posting on reddit about how lazy their group member is.

I try to contribute but I dont want to be annoying and aggressive about it. One of them decided to take lead and give us roles the first week together and he gave me the role of a “presenter and assembler” which meant I had to do the talking of the presentation and put all the files they sent me into one big file to submit. Then for the second project this morning he said I should do that again and I said I felt like I was doing zero work and could take on more or switch with someone else so everyone has a turn with the easier tasks but his reply to me was pretty much enjoy the light workload

Group projects are frequently shitty. I had a similar experience on a big project in college with a group that wouldn't take my advice on anything and ended up getting docked big points for their retarded decisions. I wrote a huge email to the professor ranting about my group the night before we presented the project. At the end of the day, no one really cared. I'm a guy btw. Don't read too much into things.

Yes its because you are a girl. Most math guys have never spoken to a woman and most of them never want to. You hear stories of ugly dudes saying hi to a girl and getting #metoo'd. No one wants to even approach you because of that. Besides that most female voices are just really grating to the ear. Plus if you tell a woman she's wrong she might start crying.

A lot of the time, on group reports, I'll just tell my group that I'll do the whole thing if they want to just coast of the grade. If you want more responsibility, just take it, e.g. do the problem the day you get it, and show them.

Thank you, I definitely will just try to be more assertive and if I know something is wrong next time before submitting it I'll just change it since submitting the assignment is my duty as the “assembler”.

I don't think you should completely dismiss communication on group projects, just that you got to make sure that people pay attention to what you say and that they will act on it. But, unfortunately, taking decisions unilaterally isn't the best thing to do while working with other groups.
