look at these two groups:
{aaff,aefg,acfh,adfi}, {bbjj,bdjg,bcjh,beji}
each individual has 4 alleles. the difference between the groups is that the first has a and f while the other has b and j, so there is 2 or 4 differences depending how you want to count it. but within each group has either: c, d, e, g, h, and i. so more variation within than between. but because each individual in each group shares either a or b and f or j they will cluster together considering edit distance that makes 2 noticeable groups at a certain scale.

Yes, there are people who have higher melanin or are taller, and have surprising insides.
They are smart, or really good at retaining alcohol.
Some shorter people are really good at jumping.

Basic things to understand is the shape of the jawline.
Generally, people with jaws that jut forward from their eyes, like a chimpanzee, are not smart.
People who are poor are not necessarily dumb.

Probably based on the false intuition that if two members of the same group are "more similar" to the average of another group than they are to each other, the groups are arbitrary.
