If you're not retarded you can easily complete the GED and score at least a 1200 which will get you into most meme state schools.
Use FAFSA for first semester funding and then research state and national scholarships once you have a 3.5GPA in uni and you should in most cases get a free full ride.
If you're smart this should all be easy. Slightly above average students with social science majors manage do do at least that.
This is as simple as it gets. Actual research is even more paperwork and bureaucratic nonsense, and if you aren't willing to put that little bit of legwork, then why are you even trying to attend? Like you said, you can study all of this for free online in your free time.
