for example, E=mc^2 did appear in the literature before Einstein, but it had an incorrect derivation and was therefore a wrong theory. also appearing in the literature at the time were many variants like E=(1/2)mc^2, E=(3/2)mc^2, plenty of other wrong equations that were guessed because anyone who knows dimensional analysis can get close but not be able to derive the coefficient correctly. but Einstein got the answer right because it popped out from quite significant and substantial original and unique developments of the theory of special relativity. anyone who makes an argument against Einstein based on that one equation is a whiny little cunt
