In the UK, old people are a lot more likely to be vaccinated, so for that population it will seem like vaccinated people are more likely to be seriously ill and die.
This is basically a case of Simpson's paradox, but we're missing two important numbers: unvac'd & not dead, and vac'd & not dead.
