Flight was solved by observing birds and applying their meachanical solutions. It wasn't even neccessary to fully conceptualize aerodynamics to achieve results.
I suspect that Immortality research is just severly underfunded and overlooked, with gene sequencing, gene editing and an adequate understanding how cells and organisms operate all the tools are there and it's only a matter of time.
