Nothing breaks if we assume light is just a really small "ball-alike" particle called photon. Double slit experiment? Different patterns because of phase interference caused by different distance from each slit. Any other "wave" behaviors can be explained by phase, frequency and distance. Everything else including photoelectric effect works already with particle behavior.
