I literally know professors who physically work at CERN or have worked there and who push a lot for C/C++, especially considering that they push for teaching ROOT in uni courses, which is the graph plotting (and other tools) library for C++. ROOT has been developed by, is being developed by and is currently widely used at CERN, and it's exclusively C/C++.
