>>13706119It was cheap enough, warm enough, liberal enough, and empty enough back then for tech nerds to concentrate there. The state itself did nothing for the tech boom. Even if California were carved up into 10 mini-states, those states would still have huge tech industries.
This is why I hate when dumb Californians brag about how their GDP is bigger than European countries. They basically suck out all the talent from the rest of the country, of course the GDP will be disproportionately huge, especially with the housing bubble.
