Most think that as long as it is not independent from the mother, it is a clump of cells. This would raise a bunch of questions because you can even take a clump of cells and raise it in an artificial womb, then is it still a clump of cells?
Unconscious patients need taken care of as well. Are they a clump of cells?
Some argue a heart beat is all that is necessary, but that has its own questions too. If you get a regular signal to keep a heart beating, is it a human? Even if it develops normally and a child is born, just that it needs a machine to keep its heart beating, is it alive? Is it a human?
It gets complicated because there seems to be a gradient between alive and dead where things that wouldn’t be alive if not for modern tech are alive now. Some more might be able to remain alive with tomorrow’s tech.
Personally, I think abortion should be legal up to birth because it kills more nogs and keeps whores from spreading their genes.
