Was an Aussie Prof working in Lie group theory (geometry).
Likes synthetic geometry, which started thousands of years ago but died down in the aftermath of Descartes, even if there's axiomatizations of it by Hilberts/Tarski from the very late 19th century.

Now he's also an idiosyncratic finitist, saying eventually the numbers end. Standard Peano arithmetic (ca. anno 1880) is a nice formal theory that claims otherwise, so as PA is virtually accepted anywhere, one could argue he fights a lost post and his opinion-sold-as-fact rants about philosphical topics make him sound like a crank. At least he's entertaining.
As a consequence of his finitism, he also doesn't get very far in the standard theory of analysis. This is less controversial, as many people in the last 100 years have weakened analysis. Hermann Weyl has angry papers aboupt pls better reject muh Least Upper Bound Property and the Russian constructivists definitely did it.

I don't find Wildbergers view very appealing, mostly because he often ends up basing his case on physical grounds (invoking some physics guesses regarding particles etc.) and he also doesn't bother formalizing his math in standard frameworks.
He motivated me to look into first-order theories of feasible numbers - I know those frameworks have been studied, but I didn't do it so far.

As opposed to the totally reasonable perspective that there are these mythical metaphysical large numbers in some mysterious invisible realm that can never be described or written down or calculated with, but should be considered just as real as 1,2,3.

Nah, Wildberger fucked up with his hyped Goldbach-conjecture happening some years back. His videos on foundations seemed eminently reasonable to me, but now I wonder whether they seem reasonable only because top-tier mathematicians following the consensus line of thinking on foundations can't be bothered addressing him and offering counterarguments. Or maybe it really does come down to "those axioms are just your opinion, man, and these axioms are my opinion."

This is why I created MMP. Its all fine and good, but clearly different axioms are better fit for different use cases. The mathematical garb needs to stay out of the computer scientist and engineers lane, but it goes without saying tools like analysis create great procedures for comprehending problems. MMP is a simply way of reasoning that separates which axioms belong where

The lack of distinction derives itself from never having to use math for anything other than getting a mark on a test- the exercise being regurgitation, not invocation and ideation. Mathematically, he's not wrong, finitism (the idea that there is a "largest" number, no such thing as infinity) is all well and good, and that's a legitimate area of math.
But the problem is he's a spaz about it, acting like a conspiracy theorist, saying all other mathematicians are sheeple and whatnot for accepting infinity. He's a crank.
