I have a bunch of these 5mg tablets that I haven't taken that expired end of 2017. How much melatonin realistically do you think they have by now? On top of my ~100mg daily vitamin C supplementation (I eat veggies and fruits too) to mitigate increased ROS and cortisol levels from sleep deprivation and stress, I want to start taking melatonin at least 1 hr before my short 2-3hr sleeps. However my fear is 5mg of melatonin is too much, I should've done more research and bought the 0.5mg tablets instead back then, and this large amount may do more harm than good, so my plan is to cut them into 4 slices which would make them 1.25mg. Even 1.25mg I think is too much, a lot of medical sites say it's safer to just have 0.5mg, but I need to know whether it's worth it for me to cut these into 8 pieces (~0.625mg each) which would be very difficult because they're already rather small tablets compared to my much larger 500mg vitamin C tablets that I cut into 8 pieces or just go with 4 slices since it's possible they lost some potency by now.
