They cannot get it to repeat the oscillation, so they aren't totally sure exactly what caused it. Its possible it was a glitch with internal code, some wind/sand blasted the helicopter as it was powering up, internal voltage regulators weren't functioning properly, ect...
Had the gearboxes failed, it would continue to oscillate with each test, but its been a one-off deal so far.
Only time will tell, but for now they need for the sun to get the fuck out of the way so we can talk with mars.
