There's been some research into anagathic processes, the problem is that we don't really know why our cells are programmed to get old, stop reproducing, cease healthy activity and then the whole system just crash down
I guess mortality is an evolutionary advantage that ensures the successive mixing up of genetic traits as generations get cycled in and out, while also keeping the intraspecific competition for resources on a level field

Anyway, rant over, regarding immortality, if we ever achieve it medically, you cna bet that it will be kept out of the hands of me and you. Only the 1% of the 1% will be allowed to touch it

Consciousness can never end because it literally = nothing and isn't in spacetime at all. A state of just nothingness from the absolute perspective is an impossibility because what rule or law exists in nothing that is there to limit it to finitude?

Something must then exist alongside nothing to avoid nothingness being finite. But things without perception do not have any form. If nothing had form then it is the same as nothingness like if you envision just being surrounded by infinite "clear" in all directions instead of color. Like if everything looked how wifi signals look to you right now by your face. Anyone who has been put out with anaesthetic will know that when experiencing stops, you just seem to skip forward in spacetime. There's no "thing" in between those two points... Perception cannot take place without consciousness because it is a pair which only takes place when there is an apparent perceiver and a perceived object.

The final grasping of the self mind is at the idea of a soul or some eternal continuous self. There is no such thing. The only unchanging element is awareness (nothingness), there has never been a little you thing that carries on unchanging inside time. The self you that began reading this post is dead by now. It dies each moment because self you is just a morphing object like a thought.
