I have. Its nice to have a 100% consistent look throughout with no work retired. The best is when you are writing a report for a university and they have certain guidelines for looks but they give you the latex style file so no start up time required and it looks exactly what they want with 0 effort.

I'm in EE so LaTex won't benefit me much, I use groff since it's more stripped down and the syntax is less time consuming to learn.

Most science students don't write papers during their undergrad. I didn't encounter LaTeX until my PhD.

go a step further and learn postscript
tex might seem exclusive and powerful if you're amongst the type of plebs who still use msoffice, but you're not impressing anyone educated. tex is where most people with an education stop, so if you to the trouble of learning postscript then you become a powerful wizard in the eyes of the average phd holder.
