Or that you may have actually had some plasticity... again, it also depends on how different and prolonged the exposure was to environments and the distance in environment and routine to your previous normal.
Just for the sake of argument, switching to living in a hut with the bushmen of the Serengeti is going to be vastly more alien for a Anglophone than staying in a host-family's house, where they all speak English and have modern amenities, regular meal times etc.
