Well im a physicist and i like to play around with chemicals. The problem i see is that a lot of chemistry seems very ad hoc with no discernible laws besides the fact that you can repeat experiments. Its hard to predict what a reaction would do besides doing a computer simulation for each case.

Reactivity of functional groups is often quite predictable. Building up more complicated molecules introduces an element of unpredictability if there could be multiple competing functional groups or unforseen steric/electronic effects. However part of organic chemistry is planning a synthetic route to remove as much of this unpredictability as possible.

The issue with solubility is that its a property thats intrinsic to the molecule, you can't predict the exact number, but relativistically you can make some comparisons
for example, NaCl, I can't know how soluble it will be, but I can predict with high accuracy that due to its electron configuration, it will be a strong electrolite, and completely dissociate in water, leading to a highly soluble compound
comparing it to other salts, like KCl, I know that this ionic property would be stronger in KCl, due to the lower electronegativity of potassium, leading to a higher solubility
same thing with Rubidium, same thing with Caesium

That seems really vague and apeman-science like. It would be like a physicist describing gravity like "things pull together".
Also nice handwaving "electron configuration". Tell me how do you actually calculate solubility from this "electron configuration"?

well, you see, chemistry is mainly about electron interactions between molecules
I know that sodium has the electron configuration [Ne] 3s1
And I know that chlorine has the configuration [Ne] 3s2 3p5
Sodium has a lower electronegativity than chloride, and has a single electron to donate in the S orbital, it's higly reactive
Chloride has a high electronegativity, and has a single electron to fill in its P orbital, it is highly reactive
They will make an ionic bond, where the chlorine will turn into chloride, and sodium into its respective cation
this makes for a highly polar molecular pair, which makes for a highly soluble molecule
