I was diagnosed with Asperger’s at the age of 5.
I understand that the term has since been retired/merged with ASD, but it seems that that decision has made my life an uphill battle.
Mental health specialists tell me I don’t have asperger’s and that it’s label is similar to that of mental retardation in the sense that it’s simply no longer used.
I struggle with communication and have awful motor skills. I can’t even get on disability. I’ve been rejected from aspie support groups that are mostly attended by those with classical autism.
TLDR: I’d like to know as to why Asperger’s was removed from the DSM. What do you think about that?
