hello sci I've got an question about education
lately i've found myself gravitating towards more technical descriptions of things I'm wanting to learn about and alot of these descriptions end up culminating in math which i don't understand but would like to

i'm in university for finance now and i have 2 thoughts please help
maybe i should study math to gain an increased understanding of the world
i could go into many different fields with a math degree, including finance
is this correct thinking? how smart do you have to be to study math?

Nope. You're gonna be a teacher. You can either be a high school teacher or a college teacher; those are your possible fields.

How the fuck do we even measure or know that? Think before you ask fucking stupid questions. Career choices aren't like rides where you have to be 'this' tall to ride. If you're dumb enough to ask that question you might be too dumb for a math degree.

what about applied math? mathematically models are essential to all areas of industry therefore industry employs many people with math degrees?

OP ignore this retard, if you get your CS in order you can do anything a CS major can.

Maths will help you understand the mathematical underpinning of macro finance, perhaps also help you make better models, though there are many established actors here.
Physics will help you in a different way, to see the entire world, especially if you also learn about the scientific method and the philosophy behind science. Just remember that much (most?) modern philosophy is a journey into the weeds. It will help you with critical thinking, though this is not always welcome.

Anon, if you choose something you don't like then you're going to suck at it and give it up anyway. If you really like math and you are prepared to put in the work then it doesn't matter how hard it is and how many fields you could get into, you will find a way to make use of your education.
