hey anons, i`m currently trying to qualify for higher education, but math is fucking me up pretty bad since i basically ignored the last 2 years of math lessons before i graduated

because of that i have big holes in my knowledge and heavily struggle with my current math lessons

could someone maybe recommend me a textbook in either english or german which includes most relevant topics and tasks for practice?

at the moment i especially struggle with linear and quadratic functions...

should i just work through lang's basic mathematics?

Picrel are the books I'm using. Not rigorous, but I follow any statement/ equation provided fully to it's deeper, intuitive meaning. I recommend you finding any college of your choice, their catalog, and find the books they use. They won't be rigorous. You don't need a rigorous book explaining things at such a level to get the deeper meaning. Instead, I recommend you find that deeper meaning yourself by questioning everything and proving everything (important) that is stated in the book. I recommend you get a physical copy of a textbook from Thriftbooks to be able to write your thoughts, questions, and your version of proofs in the margins.

Go through the textbook of your choice for at least an hour a day. Doesn't have to be one fully uninterrupted hour, just has to total an hour. Initially, you'll feel uneasy and frustrated. This is normal, you just have to get used to it. If you want to know why, read Deep Work. As you read, any questions, proofs you come up with, etc, should be written in the margins as opposed to taking notes in a notebook where you run the risk of copying down everything word for word. This will come in handy later in revision.

I revision via a retrospective review schedule. On a paper write all chapters and sections (horizontally). After reading, mark the date down next to the section,
and color code it to mark the initial difficulty of the section. Every so often, look at the sheet and choose what to review based on what has been rated most difficult and how long has passed between the last time you reviewed a certain section. This goes without saying but you should do the problems for a section (one to two for each type of problem) after you are done reading a section. You will get no where, forget, have an illusion of competency if you only read and follow along.

Forgot to mention, but most will probably recommend you start at the Calculus. I tried this and found that there were a lots of gaps in my knowledge that couldn't be remedied by progressing through the book and figuring out how to do something involving Algebra or Trigonometry. I was able to learn Calculus, just not at the level I wanted. I wanted an intuitive level of understanding, not just memorisation of equations, formulae, etc. I've restarted my approach to learning Mathematics from square one around two or three times. I'm not saying my approach is the best, it's just the one I'm testing at the moment and it seems to be working.
