Simple: Encouraging and/or tolerating homosexual behavior in a society where tribe survival is not guaranteed invites a higher chance of tribal extinction. Therefore its an instinctive no no.

You will notice intolerance is more prevalent in society's where average lifespan is lower.

So here's the news: If you live in a society where basic survival is not an issue (on a population scale), then you will enjoy the privilege of being allowed your sexual preference.
And here's the other reality: Your lifestyle is directly dependent on the success of your society. So before you want to tear down all those walls and crash the system, remember it has implications upon YOU.

While I agree with your premise, I also would contend that homosexuals contribute to society in a variety of ways that make your experience what it is. Approximately 10% of the population reports being homosexual. And I suspect if you would include the other various sexualities, and if people were more honest, the numbers would be higher. Ergo, the experience you have each day is more shaped by homosexuals than you would like to believe.

I have no issue with the contribution of homosexuals to society. They are valuable and have done/do much.

I'm still jostling with Turing Tarpits to this very day.
Enough said.

Here is my contention:
Sexual intolerance is more prevalent in society's where average lifespan is lower. This is side effect of biological survival pressure.

No reason at all for homophobia specifically. But there's an evolutionary reason for males to assert dominance over other weaker and more passive ones if they can. Homophobic societies often relate sex between men with weakness, so men have an urge to hunt the weak. A lot of societies don't really mind homosexual acts at all, so it's not an universal thing, although exclusive homosexuality is very rare, more often men will try to get a wife and kids. In hostory and in most societies that exist today.
Not that it matters, but weakness, or lack of aggressiveness, is often the case with homosexuals in my experience, beware this is nothing besides an anecdote, so I see how they are so often an instinctive target, strangely though, I remember that homosexuals tend to have a higher rate of testosterone that heterosexuals, and hormone therapy used to be the medication given by the governments when it was considered a disease.
Against women it's a different matter, but I believe a simpler one. Women are property, they shouldn't be fooling around. End of story.

The really is, homosexual is likely both nature and nurture alike. How much nature and for what reason - no idea; but I have no doubt we're seeing an uptick do to forces both willing and wanting to spread it.
