Get the fuck out now while you still can. I was a PhD in experimental physics doing similar nonsense and got out with an MS. If academia were half as smart as it thought it was, it would have worked on automating this sort of bullshit long ago, but instead they want miserable lab rats to sit around doing work a literal monkey could do. Intellectual slave labor.

As a follow-up, if you're hired by a biology lab and don't have anyone looking over your shoulder, you could just fuck off and browse internet for those 5 hours and spend time learning about things in which you were interested.
