Even if you're good at research, nowadays university positions just wont get given to anyone who doesn't spam out vast amounts of shit publications. Universities are being wrecked. Not worth it to be a postdoc anymore.

My background is Medicine and ccomputer science; the former is worse than the latter. Presumably the more fundamental the subject the more curious the personality it draws becomes, so I would assume there is less garbage in mathematics, for instance than medicine.
