Talent is something people born with. Same with IQ. It's not too surprising that there is correlation.

Iq tests seem to be mostly pattern matching, and music is mostly understanding patterns so I can see it

So an essential prerequisite for skill acquisition in music is basically pattern detection? I mean it makes sense… I’ve been playing music since I was 10 and everyone goes on and on about how talented I am. I was taught basic technique by one of my instructors and i sought to teach myself more demanding pieces of music. I would show him songs that I had learned and he was pretty awestruck. Then again, i don’t see it as anything special. I don’t feel intelligent either.

Smart people are smart, thats all there is to it.
Its useless knowledge because you cant use it for anything. To change anything or understand anything.
I have always said that in general people that are very good at one thing tend to be good at other things too, and that its unlikely for a human brain to be naturally gifted to be really good at some hyper specialized shit like paleoentomology, like theres a gene for paleoentomology.
A good artists likes all the arts, a good scientist dabbles in all sciences, a good sportsmen can jump, run, sprint, kick and throw.
