Depends how it's done.
Lowered standards for some is counterproductive since it sets the incapable up to fail courses and makes their qualification worthless.
Scholarships for some is unfair but okay if it doesn't deprive others of resources they would otherwise have had. Just don't pretend it's fair.
Quotas are dumb. We aren't all the same and it's okay to be dumber or less into academia than others.

It makes no makes no sense for the most part. I lived as a minority in the third world and we had AA aimed against us. In the end it cost me a lectureship purely due to being born the wrong skin colour despite the fact that there were no other qualified applicants (the faculty was straight with me because they wanted me to stay on as an assistant lecturer and research fellow), the administration literally prefered keeping the position unfilled and waiting years for a non-white to take it. Fine, I was only a second gen expat so I could easily move back to Europe (albeit at enormous personal cost and my family is still stuck there to this day). But now I find here they are also trying to implement AA here (which mostly benefits women right now and that is fine by me) while also forcibly importing 1st gen non-natives and giving them enormous advantages.

It is already true in the UK and US that lower class white males are the least likely out of any demographic to attend university. Many immigrant groups like Indians also already have more wealth per capita than white demographics. Yet AA is getting more rigid not less. I can only conclude that it has nothing to do with corrective action, equity etc. It is just another destructive mechanism for wealth capture intentionally bent on destroying the meritocracy, but it is not even the most effective tool to that end.

I don't think individual crimes matter all that much. My best friend in primary school and his entire household was brutally wiped out (raped, murdered, butchered) by a gang of black home invaders. Still neither this nor getting mugged more than once by blacks as a teenager made me racist. They will happy spit on left wing parties in the West as fundamentally white supremacists who feel these women do not need protection and talk about the future of Sharia law in Europe etc.
