Since anyone (pharma) can produce these medications, would be incredibly profitable for, say Bayer or Pfizer to find a cure for it, patent it and make bank.

This is basically the equivalent of saying “If one woman can produce a baby in 9 months, then 9 can produce it in 1 month, given enough effort and financial incentive”. That’s not how it works, scientists today don’t even understand what causes Alzheimer’s in the first place, and it’s not because of lack of trying or financial backing. You think it’s so easy you do it, look into it, the current research is widely and freely available with sci-hub.
