The key to understanding integrals is that there are actually TWO different definitions of integrals which are not a priori the same.
1. The definition using limits of Riemann sums. For most nice functions, this is just
$\int_a^b f(x) dx = \lim_{N\to \infty} \sum_{n=0}^{N-1} \frac{1}{N} f(a+ (b-a)\frac{n}{N} )$ .
2. The definition using the antiderivative.
$\int_a^b f(x)dx = F(b) - F(a)$ where $F'(x)=f(x)$ is the antiderivative of F.
The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus shows that these two definitions coincide.

u have to order wrong in terms of classes assuming pre reqs

either way calc 1 isnt difficult even to the untrained code monkey rather calc 2 is the weeder course at most schools so if you are struggling with 1 then good luck during calc 2

many universities offer watered down "linear algebra 1" which is just a bunch of matrix operations and has nothing to do with stuff related to ODEs , so it's perfectly feasible to take it without any calculus. at any rate you are NGMI OP. there's zillions of resources you could use to study integrals on your own but instead you are here complaining haha

this is exactly why comp sci and their monkeys are treated the way they are here hell some of us dont even acknowledge CS as a descipline even if the material is a subset of trivial math

i've always thought that pre-multivariable calc is something you could learn before high school - it's really not super complicated.

Just use Khan Academy or search up your problem on YouTube. The lucky thing about lower level math is there is endless resources online to help you

You made a mistake and I think this is what is confusing OP.

In your definition for a Riemann sum your term $\frac{1}{N}$ needs to be $\frac{b- a}{N}$ , because your not partitioning over the interval 0 to 1, your partitioning over the interval a to b.
