Yes I could have just "read the books", which I already did, but the environment that allowed me to read the books and then directly discuss the material with people who has spent decades studying it as these

For law, I would say it is extremely hard to learn this subject at a level acceptable to a modern legal practice on your own, so a school is needed. Price is absurd though, no denying that but it's more of a guild protection thing to maintain wages than it is an accurate estimation of the educational value
