Could we use eugenics to create a race of really long lived humans? By continuously breeding people with favorable family histories.
What would happen if this went on for millenia? Just a mild capped increase to like 150 years or something extreme like 500-1000 years?

One problem is you'd be breeding individuals before you find out how long they actually live, unless you breed out menopause first and have only geriatrics breeding.
Another problem is often we die because of cancerous DNA changes, but if there were no DNA changes there'd be no evolution. So it might cap because you incidentally breed in DNA stability with longevity.
But in principle there's no limit. Life's been going for billions of years, no reason it can't do that as a single organism.

There’d be no point and the study would have to continue over so many generations of people. Anyone older than 100 has guaranteed brain rot anyways, regardless of how long they’ll continue to live after that.
Our efforts should instead go to slowing down the aging process so that older people can be just as fit and healthy as they were decades ago.

Its happening on its own due to roasties choosing to breed at 40. Many find they are sterile but some are still fertile. So only those with long fertility reproduce.
Extrapolate and in 1000 years women will have been selected to be able to reproduce in their 60s.
Now heres a big assumption: The health of the reproductive system correlates with general body health, if your ovaries work then your kidneys, heart, etc also do since organ failure cascades, bad health begets bad health. So good ovaries at 60 imply a healthy body so "still young" because people dont die of old age they die of bad health that comes with age.

A simple and effective way to do this is to increase the age at which everyone has kids. Like, cap it so you can't have kids until you're much older. That raises the bar significantly within a few generations. Of course, you have to have the control to actually do it.

Why would you want that though? People need to fucking die, stop desperately clinging onto life like some scared leech monkey. Things would stagnate without young people and we would eventually die out from lack of adaption.
