If they were all mutually dependent, I would call that a discovery, like if lettuce, tomato, onion, and pepper all existed in one spot feeding on bird poop whose eggs make the dressing, and exclusively near salt deposits, I'd call that a salad patch. But since it's a combination of disparate plants, that's invention. Further, if you just took a raw bite of lettuce and then a raw bit of onion, that's not really salad, is it? So the cutting/shaping of the pieces are certainly necessary.
