Agriculture is not sustainable, it causes domestication of wild edible plants (this is akin to artificial selective breeding of dogs), causes soil erosion and degradation that leads to desertification, thus destroying both soil and the food.
Thanks to capitalist greed, we have made agriculture even more toxic, polluting and "massively industrial" by introducing artificial chemicals and fertilisers. All of this has only added to ecological destruction.
Apart from this we need petroleum for modern agriculture to function (transport, machinery, storage etc) , once we run out of petroleum, it's over for modern agriculture.
Pic rel :- Drop in mineral content in US crops, the graph shows calcium, iron, & magnesium in vegetables declined a very large amount since 1914.
This is what agriculture leads to, today we have to produce a lot more of produce than before to get the same amount of nutrient content, and this is only going to increase. This is your "growth in yield".
